Under current U.S. law, independent third-party companies can access vessel manifests and summary statistical reports of imports and exports, including household goods shipments. Information eligible for disclosure includes a person’s name, address, passport number, and the name and address to which the shipment is consigned. Once obtained by these companies, a person’s data may be used for publication and distribution to other companies that have purchased their services.

French Port Delays

Delays at several ports in France due to a recent strike have occurred this month. The National Federation of Ports and Docks launched a call to strike at French ports on 18 and 19 October, which led to the suspension of work at the following ports: Marseille, Le Havre, Rouen, Nantes Saint-Nazaire, and Bordeaux. The strikes resulted in delays in the processing of shipments and potential additional costs.

Severe Weather Conditions Forces The Closure of The Port of Durban in South Africa

October 11, 2017

Severe weather conditions forced the closure of the Port of Durban. The storm caused three large vessels, including the containership MSC Ines, to run aground and block the entrance to the port.  In addition, many smaller boats are adrift, causing Durban’s Transnet National Port Authority to close the port to vessel and rail traffic due to safety concerns. Tugboats and the marine service team are assisting in emergency recovery efforts and the port has put into action its Business Continuity Plan to monitor the situation on a 24-hour basis until normal operations have been restored.

News Alert: Qatar And Hurricane Harvey Situation Updates

Three months have passed since the neighboring countries of Qatar imposed a blockade in Qatar due to concerns over regional destabilization. Since that time, all commercial and other movement between neighboring countries have been on hold. Consequently, delays in transit have occurred, and the Port of Salalah or Sohor from Port of Hamad are being utilized instead of Jebel Ali. Delays regarding vessel ETA / ETD are in fluctuation and have resulted in biweekly sails. Commercial movements via Oman are also considerably delayed, as well as delayed clearance in Hamad port Doha.
