In the third episode of Forward Footprint, Arpin’s ESG Director Karen Bannon continues the series’ exploration of sustainable, community-led development. She welcomes back Dr. Sue Carlson, Executive Director of the Raising Haiti Foundation. This episode examines how access to microcredit is helping women in rural Haiti build thriving small businesses. In turn, it strengthens their families and creates lasting economic opportunities within their communities.
For many aspiring entrepreneurs around the world, access to capital is often the biggest obstacle to starting or growing a business. In rural Haiti, where traditional banking services are limited and financial resources can be difficult to obtain, even a small loan can create opportunities. The Raising Haiti Foundation’s Microcredit Program provides women with the financial tools, mentorship, and support they need to become self-sufficient business owners.
Dr. Carlson explains how the program goes beyond simply providing microloans. Participants become part of a close-knit network of women. They encourage one another, share business knowledge, and celebrate each other’s successes. This “family” model creates accountability, builds confidence, and strengthens entire communities by ensuring support throughout their journey.
Arpin’s Forward Footprint continues to spotlight innovative initiatives that create meaningful, measurable change through sustainable development and community partnership.
