As of October 1, 2024, almost 50,000 longshoremen have officially walked off the job at US East Coast and Gulf Ports, creating severe supply chain disruptions. With negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) at a standstill, the strike adds to the already significant challenges caused by Hurricane Helene, which crippled infrastructure across several East Coast states.
Consequently, we are urging our customers whose shipments move through these impacted ports to expect significant delays and potential additional costs, including port storage, demurrage, and other fees. Shipping lines are working on contingency plans and redirecting shipments to alternative ports, when possible.
In this time of uncertainty, Arpin is committed to being your trusted partner, ensuring you are supported every step of the way. Our dedicated service team will continue to provide clear, realistic updates and reach out to those directly affected. We will work closely with you to create individualized contingency plans, helping to minimize disruptions for our relocating families.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your Arpin service team for personalized advice and guidance on alternative shipping routes or if you have any concerns about additional charges. We’re here to help you navigate these challenges and keep your shipments moving as smoothly as possible during this critical time.
