Service Interruption Alert: Chronic Delays Affecting Ports In The United Kingdom

September 26, 2018

Ports throughout the UK are currently experiencing chronic delays affecting container haulage. The delays are affecting both the import and export of household goods and personal effects’ shipments.

Southampton Port – The port is overloaded with container traffic at the moment, reportedly over stacking containers. Huge container vehicle traffic volumes; consequently, as the port works harder to catch up, mechanical breakdowns are occurring that result in longer than expected turnaround times on the quay.

London Gateway Port – Early Morning and late afternoon vehicle booking slot is a real issue with the high volume of traffic, compounded by mechanical breakdowns on the port. Gateway is suffering from longer than average turnarounds.

Tilbury Port – High volume and vehicle traffic is affecting vehicle booking slot allocation and turnaround times.

Felixstowe Port – Vehicle booking slot allocation still remains an issue and turnarounds on the port are so irregular and varied, it is impossible to gauge an average turnaround time. In addition, mechanical breakdowns on the port are further impacting operations.

We are advising customers with shipments moving through UK ports to prepare for major delays as well as additional port storage, demurrage, and various other charges which may be assessed.

Your Arpin Service team is aware of all shipments that may be impacted and will make arrangements to ensure appropriate parties are kept informed of any potential service disruption.
