2026 International Moving Industry Trends

How AI Agents, Resilience, and Knowledge Management Are Shaping the Future of Global Relocation was discussed in the recent FIDI-authored 2026 State of the Industry Report, which highlighted current moving industry trends.

Why Quality Standards and Independent Audits Matter in International Relocation

Arpin is a member of FIDI, one of the largest global alliances of international moving and relocation companies, with members in over 100 countries. One of the unique things that FIDI demands of its members is a stringent and comprehensive quality standard that is audited by an independent third party. In a world where it is often difficult to know if what you are seeing is “real,” this auditing provides an additional layer of veracity to an organization’s commitment to quality and transparency.

Why Volatility Has Become the New Normal in Global Mobility

I just finished looking over FIDI’s “State of the Industry Report” for 2026 and wanted to share some thoughts on current moving industry trends. After several years of disruption, there was hope for some stability in 2026; however, renewed geopolitical conflicts along with any residual effects from the previous years have resulted in more challenges, including higher energy costs, elevated freight rates, longer transit times, insurance complications, and continued uncertainty in global trade routes. A central theme of the report is that volatility is no longer temporary but has become a normal operating condition.

The Growing Importance of Adaptability, Resilience, and Workforce Development

Adaptability, resilience, employee-focused services, tech adoption, cybersecurity readiness, and professional development all have become key topics for a company that wants to survive and thrive in today’s market.

Technology, Cybersecurity, and Innovation as Competitive Advantages

On the weekly call last week for Arpin, we discussed an AI Agent that was built internally as a knowledge center for staff. This is a place I really like AI for; not only can we upload policies, diagrams, business rules, HR functions, photos, and such for retrieval and search, we can also throw in emails that clarified some of the data as well as train the AI Agent’s output to more closely mimic that of longtime staff and managers.

Using AI-Powered Knowledge Centers to Preserve Institutional Knowledge

I have been in the industry for a long time, and when I think of longevity, training, and professional development internally, I really see this as a place where we can create fantastic legacy tools for the company. A more even distribution of our institutional knowledge that can be built upon and passed down in a more comprehensive and organized manner than in the past. AI does a great job of combining so many different types of input in a way that traditional methods can’t or don’t, which is why I am really excited about it.

A Real-World Example: Clarifying GSA Extended Storage Pricing with AI

One example of this is as far as CHAMP business goes. This is a screenshot from the Extended storage RFO:

It was not clear to me whether the excess costs on extended storage were eighty-five cents or eighteen cents or both, as well as whether the eighteen cents was monthly? GSA clarified that you add the two together and that the eighteen cents is a one-time fee.

The AI agent can be instructed to grab the information (like storing it on a drive that you decide), but it would not necessarily make sense to a staff member the way it’s written. Using the AI agent, I can instruct it on this clarity as well as get it to answer appropriately:

Enhancing Operational Consistency Through Business-Specific AI Agents

Using these “AI Agents”, we are much better able to pass on and preserve institutional knowledge as well as to instruct based on our business, culture, and history as to how “we” would want the answer to come out.

Acronyms – FIDI – Fédération Internationale des Déménageurs Internationaux, which is French for International Federation of International Movers. AI – artificial intelligence.  RFO – request for offers.  GSA – General Services Administration.  XTOS – Extended Storage Tender of Service. FVP – full value protection.
