Arpin employee raises $5,000 for veterans’ charity, honored as top 10 individual fundraiser

July 25, 2017

Mark Dearborn, vice president of corporate accounts of Arpin Group, raised $5,000 for the Boston-based veterans charity fundraiser event, Run to Home Base. He was honored as a top 10 individual fundraiser and an all-star fundraiser.

Dearborn has been participating in Run to Home Base since 2014 and has personally raised $13,000 for the charity. He ran the 9-kilometer course in 43 minutes, a personal best.

“I began running many years ago because I wanted to become healthier and more active,” said Dearborn. “When I learned of this event that incorporated my love of running with a cause I felt so strongly about, I knew I had to participate. We have many worthy causes out there, but this to me is one that really needs our support. The first year I took part in this event, I was hooked and vowed that I would participate in Run to Home Base as long as I was physically able. It is a top-notch event and you see firsthand where the funds you raise are going.”

Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds for veterans, service members and their families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education and research. As a National Center of Excellence, Home Base operates the first and largest private-sector clinic in the nation devoted to treating post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occurring substance use disorder, military sexual trauma, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with military service.

“Each year the pre-race ceremony brings most to tears, featuring someone who has been saved by Home Base. This year’s speaker, a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, went into great detail of his struggles and explained how Home Base saved his life. If you go once to this event you will see how worthy of a cause it is,” said Dearborn.

Since inception, Home Base has served more than 11,000 veterans and family members with care and support, trained more than 45,000 clinicians, educators and community members nationally and remains at the forefront of discovering new treatments - ensuring a brighter future for the 21st century warrior and military family.
